Jessica and James met at UC Santa Barbara while attending film school there. They were absolutely awesome to work with in that they were totally candid in all of their interactions. I just had to be in the right place at the right time. That simple. So the 16mm film camera he has isn’t just a prop, he legitly owns that piece. I brought the crane jib on my car, not knowing if I was going to use it or not, but I couldn’t resist after seeing the vineyard and pretty white flowers in the grass. The vineyard is actually where their wedding is taking place so everything in this short film has true meaning to them.

Shot on the 5DMk2 and the 7D with a bunch of Canon L lenses. Mostly the 100mm Macro IS F2.8 L and the 24-105mm F4 L. Conformed to 24P. Igus slider, Cobra crane, Glidecam HD 2000, Bogen sticks, and my buddy John who knows how to get money shots.

There were two short shots in this one that I liked the framing on but a bunch of telephone poles and wires really ruined it for me, as well as a stop sign. So I decided to take them out. This is DEFINITELY not something I do often as it can be time consuming but this happens to be an easier one because it’s on a sky background. Check out the before and after. It totally makes it.

Ben and Lisa. From the Timpanogos Temple to Sundance resort, explore the beautiful surroundings and the fashionably notable bride. While editing to Coldplay’s “Strawberry Swing” I couldn’t help but feel the rhythm, dreaminess, smoothness, and modern edge, all wrapped into one song. So that’s how I decided to edit this piece. Enjoy.

DOCUMENTARY: Lieutenant Dan has been deployed in Afghanistan since last October and is on his way home. But what makes it special is that he has a new baby daughter waiting to meet him for the first time. Watch as this journey unfolds throughout the day as the tension builds and the family reunites for the first time as three. It’s a crusher. You can’t help but feel some of the patriotism when he arrives home. As I said in a prequel to this post, this is the stuff life is all about.

I chose this song because it starts soft and subtle, with a little bit of mystery. But the end has a huge payoff that I love. Lifehouse – “Everything”.

Think back a bit and tell me you haven’t sat through dozens of wedding videos that fell under the category of either “mushy” or “ultra-cinematic drama.” That may be the reason why hiring a videographer for a wedding typically comes well after the photographer, dj, florist, catering… it’s one of those jobs that got a bad rap no thanks to the 80s and 90s.

But things are different now. We strive to find some level of originality, find a story to tell, and find a way to take it to a different level each time. When we were still a bit new a ways back with the films “Amy and Dan” or the now Utah phenom “Jana and Billy”, those mini films I’d say would fall under “stylish” or “deep love”. The Tennessee film unraveled a “dreamy” tale with a great ending. The music has all been great and the people were phenomenal. But not everyone fits the same mold. That’s why we try to tailor to your personalities, and if you are quirky and fun, then that’s exactly what we need to do!

A little while ago we put the word out to entice some fun young couples to do a shoot with us. Lauren and Ben showed up with bell and whistles, and bikes, and twister, and a bag of good times. It’s always fun to go out on the edge and try something new or to climb a higher tree as in this video. Really, who wants to see people kissing and making out the whole time? I say be fun, quirky, and romantic all at the same time. Check these guys out. Oh ya, I think they’ve been married for 7 years. Something about married couples is just a lot of fun. This is titled after the song name, but I could use a little more cowbell at the end.

So this cute photographer girl from Ontario, Canada writes us and says, “Can I please fly you boys to Tennessee to shoot my wedding?” And then she shows us the photos of the $5 million dollar log cabin (err…log mansion) that we’d all be staying in…and we say, “OF COURSE!”

Seriously, everything about this destination wedding was a dream: the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN with two of the sweetest and most fun kids ever (ok, their whole family was the most fun ever). We had a blast and got to try a bunch of fun new camera moves, too.

Tech info is our standard stuff: a couple of 5D Mark IIs, a bag full of ‘L’ glass (the new 100mm f/2.8L Macro with the new Hybrid IS is our current fave) and a stash of DIY stabilization systems that Ryan “McGyver’d” in ways you wouldn’t believe. Think TREES. All-in-all, it was a great experience with wonderful people who gave us all the right elements to create a beautiful engagement+wedding film.

For those of you interested in what we do, remember, time is a big component. We had three days with this couple, so if you want us to create something similar for you, make sure you BRING IT…the style, the fun, and enough time to make it all happen!

The line up: He’s a pro soccer player and she looks like she just came from a beauty pageant. For real. These two were incredibly fun and I think that was a requirement to be a guest as well. It was a perfect winter’s day but I sure had my share of sweat toting around 2 cameras, tripods, a crane, slider, a steadicam, and all my lenses and audio gear (on top of my second shooter having all his stuff). In the end, I feel like I finally get to see the payoff. Here it is. I think this one actually gets better the further into you go. Enjoy. Thanks to John for being my main man with the other cam.

Yesterday I got back from a short trip to Haiti with the intent of documenting the progress of the relief efforts and condition of the people. The film is in my backlist of projects to edit, but I had to share a few screen caps of what is to come as well as a few photos I took. The conditions are unimaginable. Try thinking of the worst place you’ve ever seen on TV and then multiply it by 10. It’s horrifying. There are serious problems and it leaves you wondering where and how do you start to repair? The government is corrupt and they were poor to begin with. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the detailed film with more on the conditions and corruption of the already forgotten island.

It all started in Newport Beach and ended on Balboa Island. It’s obvious that Erin and Warren aren’t your typical bride and groom, because they are legit-ly cool people and aren’t afraid to have fun anywhere. It also helps to have a cool photographer who works well with you and likes to have the same kind of crazy fun. He actually took a photo-sequence of the groom running behind the bride as you see here and merged them. I saw it, and thought I’d give it a crack for the film as well. But if there’s a lesson for all brides out there, it’s this: you have to have fun, you have to step out of your box a little because it’s your wedding day.
Two more things: allow yourself time to spend with your videographer (and photographer) and pick cool music. This piece certainly has an edge to it which fit Erin and Warren quite well, but just don’t feel like you have to resort to Jack Johnson, Michael Buble, Colbie Callet… get my point? All great musicians, but there’s a lot more out there.
So enjoy this quick little film of Erin and Warren’s wedding day. Given the chance I would do it again any day.
